No strata of the Strathclyde Group are known from either the Sanquhar or Thornhill outliers. Clackmannan Group Sanquhar outlier. At the south-west margin of the Sanquhar outlier, strata assigned to the Clackmannan Group form a condensed sequence up to 30 m thick of coarse-grained and carbonaceous sandstone and grey siltstone.
